Learn the pronounciation of all the different sounds, it doesn't take long because the pronounciation is a lot easier and more regular than English. Next learn how to conjugate the -are, -ire and -ere verbs, and learn a few irregular but important ones, like avere and essere. Also learn the genders and how they change in the plural. All of this will only require writing out a few lists and learning them, then work on building your vocabulary. You could become conversational in less than a week if you stick at it and put the time in.
