Well I'm an italian girl and I want to improve my english. If you know some spanish you'll understand better italian but don't think it'll be the same thing because spanish and italian have similar words but they are quite different. Anyway if you want to learn italian I'm here :) (I also know latin as we study it in Italy). You can write me an e-mail. Bye.
References :
Italian is easy because it is the closest living language to Latin, from which we take many of our English words. Unfortunately it is also difficult because of the difference in the sentence structure and the addition of a couple verb tenses that don't have exact counterparts in English. However, if you have even attempted to learn any language before, that experience will help you because it gives you an introduction into thinking about language, and talking, differently.

The absolute best way is immersion. Go to the country, get around people who speak it, try to hear nothing but it for the longest amount of time possible. If that isn't possible, tapes are definitely the next best way to go, Be sure to get something with native speakers and make sure to repeat what they say. Pronounciation is very important, especially in Italian.

I would recommend Rosetta Stone software...it can be expensive but it covers all aspects of language ( reading, writing, listening, and speaking evaluation) and it's what I used as my basis before traveling to Italy to learn.
References :
www.rosettastone.com

A second language is pretty easy if you are properly taught and you really want to learn. Remember almost every one can speak one language, so two shouldn't be to hard.
